Soprano Melanie
Campbell recently received her Masters of Music and Graduate Diploma at New
England Conservatory as the recipient of the Wendy Shattuck’75 Presidential
Scholarship for Vocal Studies.
At NEC, she has
performed Semele from Cavalli’s L’Egisto, and Dido from Purcell’s Dido and
Aeneas. She has also participated in many opera scenes such as Tatyana in the
final Scene of Eugene Onegin, Aida in Verdi's second act duet, Tosca in
Puccini’s famous love duet, Magda in Menotti's The Consul and Adrianna in
Cilea's Adriana Lecouvreur. In summer 2008, she performed the Innkeeper’s wife
in The Cunning Little Vixen and received an opera news review saying “her few
phrases glowed with rich individuality”.
At Chautauqua, she
also performed in two opera scenes which included Gioconda in Gioconda and Donna
Anna in Don Giovanni. This summer, Melanie Campbell preformed Suor Angelica in
Puccini's Suor Angelica in Seoul Korea with Virginia opera's director Joseph
Walsh In korea she received a first place award at the International vocal music
institute and asian american music society voice competition sponsored by
George mason university and Ewa woman's university.
Melanie Campbell was
an all state shot putter and received a scholarship at George Mason University.
She received a Bachelor of Music and a minor in sociology, and was honored at
the commencement ceremony with an academic achievement award. At GMU she has
appeared as a soloist with the George Mason University Symphony, after winning
the Concerto/Aria Competition. At GMU she performed as the Mother in Menotti’s
Amahl and the Night Visitors, and the Abbess in Puccini’s Suor Angelica
Melanie has performed
with the Charlottesville Orchestra conducted by Lance Vining, and Coro Liro
directed by Jason C. Tramm. In the summer of 2007, she participated in Centro
Studi Lirica in Novafeltria Italy under Joan Patenude-Yarnell and Ubaldo Fabbri.
