Claflin Hill Presents March Concerts
The Claflin Hill Music Performance Foundation's concert season continues in
March with performances of Adventures in Listening on Sunday March 5th and The
Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, March 11th.
Adventures in Listening - Claflin Hill's family & children's educational concert
series - presents the second concert of the season on Sunday, March 5, 2006 at 3
PM in Milford Memorial Hall, 30 School Street, Milford. Admission is $3, with a
family cap of $10 for entire families. This presentation is entitled "Young
Performers on Parade" and features some of the region's most talented high
school age student musicians -drawn largely from the Metrowest Youth Symphony
Orchestra based in Framingham. Claflin Hill Symphony musicians have been
"mentoring" the youth orchestra since January 2005, working with the students in
sectional rehearsals and performances. This season, the partnership also created
a chamber ensemble program, coached by CHSO professionals. The Metyso Woodwind
Quintet and String Ensemble will be performing on the program, joined also by a
flute/oboe duo from Metyso. Other young performers include Cassie Kogut-Taylor
of Uxbridge, a talented vocalist who will be performing music from Pocahontas
and Guys & Dolls, and Pianist Sean Yoshioka of Hopedale, who will be performing
music of George Gershwin. Yoshioka will also be featured as the first "Youth
Soloist" with The Claflin Hill Symphony in the 2006-07 Season.
"Since its founding, Claflin Hill has been devoted to nurturing and supporting
the music education and experience of young people," said Paul Surapine, Claflin
Hill Executive Director. "Through our Adventures in Listening series, which
started in 1997, educational clinics in schools, our Mentor Partnership with The
Metrowest Youth Symphony Orchestra - Claflin Hill has a multi-faceted approach
to bringing music to young people. This concert is a terrific opportunity to
highlight and give recognition to young musicians who are devoting hours of
practice and study to developing a musical ability. At the same time, it's a
great opportunity for young audience members to see young people not too much
older than themselves performing on the Claflin Hill stage."
Adventures in Listening performances include coloring and activity pages for
young listeners and hosted by the Claflin Hill Puppeteers.
Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra . . .
The Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra season continues on Saturday March 11th,
7:30 PM, Milford Town Hall when Holly MacEwen Krafka leads the New World Chorale

German Requiem" - perhaps inspired by the death of his mother and his best
friend, the composer Robert Schumann. This elegiac work is an uplifting
statement on our eternal souls - the perfect concert for the beginning of the
spring seasons of rebirth. This performance of the CHSO is made possible with
grants from American National Power, The Waters Corporation, The Bright
Insurance Agency, The Music Nook and Massachusetts Electric.
