Apple
Tree Arts hosts "A Summer Evening of Jazz" on
June 21st with two performances at 5 and 7 pm at
The Grafton Inn with the incomparable vocalist
Monica Hatch accompanied by jazz guitarist Mitch
Seidman and bassist Bob Simonelli. Admission is
$20 for adults and $15 for seniors. For tickets
call Apple Tree Arts at 508-839-4286. Delicious
summer inspired appetizers will be served at the
concerts.
Ms. Hatch will mesmerize listeners with her
renditions of summer songs from the Great
American Songbook mixed with Bossa Nova
classics. Winner of "Down Beat Magazine's" Jazz
Vocal Soloist Award, "JazzTimes Magazine" calls
her "one of the rare musicians who breeze
between the jazz and classical worlds." Her CD
"Lady of Hearts" features jazz standards and
harmonica legend Toots Thieleman.
New England audiences know Ms. Hatch from her
many singing engagements at jazz clubs and
festivals and for her five-year stint as the
host of Jazz Matinee on WICN 90.5 FM radio in
Worcester. She is a voice faculty member of
Apple Tree Arts, the non-profit community music
and theater arts school.
The historic Grafton Inn is offering several
special dishes to complement the jazz concert. A
coconut prawn appetizer is made with homemade
tempora mixed with coconut and topped off with a
zesty marmalade sauce. The "Summer on a Plate"
entrée is a fresh rendering of eggplant
parmigiana with a slice of tomato between each
piece of breaded eggplant accompanied with
mozzarella and chiffoned fresh basil sitting on
a bed of spaghetti squash.
A contributing editor of "20th Century Guitar
Magazine" for over 10 years, Mr. Seidman has
been a professional musician for 35 years and is
a professor at Berklee College of Music. He has
made numerous recordings with many renowned jazz
musicians as well as solo CDs. Mr. Seidman
teaches jazz guitar for Apple Tree Arts and
produced this year's music program for the
Grafton Fine Arts & Music Festival.
Mr. Simonelli is a well rounded musician with
experience performing with many different
ensembles and has backed up performers such as
Jerry Vale, Bob Hope and Diahann Carroll. He has
recorded with many leading bands and vocalists.
Concert-goers will receive a 10% discount on
dinner at The Grafton Inn. The restaurant serves
"from scratch continental cuisine menu."
Reservations are available for dinner after 4:00
and until 10:00 pm in the dining room or
beautiful patio set in a wooded area overlooking
the lovely common. Fresh tomato brushetta,
