Paul
Surapine began clarinet studies at the age of nine in the public school system
of Enfield, CT. Paul graduated from the Hartt School,
where he studied with Kalmen Opperman, and continued his studies with Opperman
for almost fifteen years.

Orchestra, Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Hartford Chamber Orchestra, The
Connecticut Pops Orchestra, The Julius Grossman Orchestra at Lincoln Center,
Opera Orchestra of New York; Goodspeed Opera; Hartt Opera Theater; The Merrick (L.I.)
Symphony Orchestra, The Connecticut Clarinet Consort; The Sylvan Winds of New
York City at Carnegie Hall; The Hartford Pops Band, Concertmaster; The Kalmen
Opperman Clarinet Choir; RCA, Carnegie Hall; The Claflin Hill Symphony
Orchestra; The Milford Concert Band and The Paul Surapine Clarinet Ensemble.
Solo
appearances include performances with The Emerson String Quartet, The Hartford
Pops Band, The Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra; The Manchester (Connecticut)
Symphony Orchestra; The Columbia County (New York) Orchestra; and The Hartt
Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Surapine has given many solo and chamber music recitals
in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Vermont.
Paul
has appeared at Carnegie Hall in New York as a member of the Kalmen Opperman
Clarinet Choir in a concert with Richard Stoltzman. Featured on the program was
Paul's arrangement for clarinet choir of Debussy's "Golliwog's Cakewalk". He
has also recorded with Stoltzman and the Kalmen Opperman Clarinet Choir for RCA
on the recording "Hark", a record of Christmas music.
One
of the most active and prolific regional producers of educational and cultural
performances, Paul is the founder and Executive and Artistic Director of The
Claflin Hill Music Performance Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization
dedicated to creating cultural events in the Worcester-Metrowest-Boston region
and creating performance opportunities for the region’s finest resident
professional musicians. As Executive Director, Paul oversees the production and
management of numerous professional performance ensembles, such as The Claflin
Hill Summer Winds, a 35- piece professional wind ensemble, The Claflin Hill
Symphony Orchestra, which was launched in 2000, the Paul Surapine Clarinet
Ensemble and many other chamber and symphonic performances. Claflin Hill also
produces Milford's summer concert series, Family Night at the Bandstand,
as well as several other educational and chamber music series, such as the
Memorial Hall Chamber Series, Music Outreach and “Adventures in Listening,”
which takes place in Milford.
Paul
is a faculty member at The College of The Holy Cross, Clark University,
Worcester State College, and the Touchstone School, Apple Tree Arts in Grafton, and Indian
Hill Arts in Littleton, MA and The Rhode Island Philharmonic School of Music in
Providence. Paul has resided in Milford with his wife, Susan
and two sons, Zachary and Joshua since 1992.
