About the Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra: |
Nikola Takov, Concertmaster
Nikola Takov recently retired as Claflin Hill's Concertmaster. We are
grateful for his years of commitment and dedication to Claflin Hill and all of
our efforts to bring great culture and classical music to the region.
Nikola will be performing with The Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra. Pamplona
is home to Navarra's symphonic orchestra, one of the oldest orchestras still
active in Spain. Founded by Pablo Sarasate in 1879, it showcases composers from
Navarra, but doesn't hesitate to entertain Pamplona with the works of composers
from around the world. The Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra generally plays in the
El Baluarte auditorium.
A Native of Sofia, Bulgaria, Nikola
began playing violin at the age of five. He received his Bachelors Degree in
Violin Performance from Louisiana State University and his Masters of Music and
Diploma in Performance from Boston University. His principle teachers include
Yuri Mazurkevich, Kevork Mardrossian, and Dora Ivanova. Mr. Takov has performed
extensively throughout the United States and Europe in solo, chamber and
orchestral settings. Nikola has won a number of competitions and has appeared as
a soloist with numerous ensembles in Europe and the United States, as well as
performing in master classes including those held by David Cerone, Joseph
Silverstein, Camilla Wicks, Sergiu Luca, Charles Cattleman and Elmar Oliveira.
Nikola is a founding member of
Kalistos Chamber Orchestra, and is currently the concertmaster of Claflin Hill
Symphony Orchestra. He is also a member of Portland Symphony Orchestra and Rhode
Island Philharmonic.
