Mahler: Das Lied von der Erde (Songs of the Earth)
Our Journey Season concludes with the “Alpha and Omega” – Bach, upon whom all music henceforth was based, and Mahler – the “apex” of Romanticism which began which with Beethoven’s Third. Mahler’s “Das Lied” was his penultimate work, and concludes with the poignant “Der Absheid” (The Farewell), perhaps foretelling his own untimely death shortly after.

Our Journey Season takes us to Central Europe and The Czech Republic, as Guest Conductor Thomas Hojnacki returns to the CHSO Podium to lead the orchestra, in a program featuring Antonin Dvorak’s Seventh Symphony, Smetana’s colorful “Die Moldau” from “Ma Vlast” (My Country” and a world premiere based on Hojnacki’s impressions from his visit to Prague.

Our CHSO audience is in for a treat, as CHSO presents The World Premiere of an Original Work for orchestra and chorus written and performed by CHSO’s violinist Julia Okrusko. The New World Chorale joins us for Grieg’s mystic Peer Gynt, and Borodin’s Majestic Prince Igor. Legends was recently nominated for the 2013 Hollywood Music in Media Awards.
